Get A Refurb G4 Cube For US$1299, 500 MHz PowerMac G4 For US$2199

by , 1:30 PM EST, December 7th, 2000

Apple is offering some really good deals on refurb models. Dan Knight of Low End Mac noticed them and dropped us a note, and we thought you might like to know too. In short, Apple is offering several refurbished models at some very good prices. They are:

  • Power Mac G4 Cube 450MHz/64MB/20G/DVD/56K - Refurbished $1,299.00
  • Power Mac G4 500MHz/256MB/27G/DVD/ZIP $2,199.00
  • Power Mac G4 Dual 450MHz/128MB/30G/DVD/56K/GigE $1,949.00
  • iMac 500DV Special Edition 128MB/30G/DVD/56K Graphite - Refurbished $1,249.00
  • Apple Studio Display 17" CRT - Refurbished $349.00
  • Apple Studio Display 15" Flat Panel - Refurbished $699.00
  • PowerBook G3 500MHz/128MB/12G/DVD/E-No Floppy - Refurbished $2,299.00

You can find information on these deals at the Apple Store. Apple is also offering various AppleCare options for most of those products.

The Mac Observer Spin:

These are some excellent prices, and show that Apple really wants to move some merchandise. Some quick buying advice from The Mac Observer: The Cube is a great deal, but if you don't mind spending the money you can get a new unit for US$1499 after the mail-in rebate [Note: The rebate currently requires the purchase of a monitor too].

Note that the PowerMac G4 500 MHz model is US$250 more than the dual processor 450 MHz model. If you have no intention of moving to Mac OS X any time soon, think about the 500 MHz model. With almost all Mac OS 9 apps not taking advantage of the multiprocessors, you will see faster performance with that extra 50 MHz. If, on the other hand, you are thinking about OS X, or planning on moving to OS X, think very hard about getting the dual-processor unit. The same goes if you are a heavy Photoshop user, as that app supports multiprocesing even in OS 9.

The prices on the iMac DV and the 500 MHz PowerBook are pretty much hard to resist.

Good luck and have fun folks. :-)
