by , 2:00 PM EDT, June 18th, 2001

While OS X's included screen capture utility, Grab, provides basic functionality many users are looking for a more powerful way to take pictures of their OS X screen. Have no fear, because Ambrosia's Snapz Pro is coming to OS X. Snapz Pro X is currently in development, and will provide a host of powerful screen capture utilities when complete. According to Ambrosia:

Snapz Pro X brings Ambrosia's award-winning Snapz Pro product to OS X. We're not just porting it, we're rewriting the entire product from the ground up to take advantage of MacOS X's unique features.

Snapz Pro is a sleek utility that lets you grab virtually anything you see on your Mac's screen and immediately transform it into a usable picture file or QuickTime movie. Snapz Pro 2 also works when most other capture utilities won't, making it the screenshot utility of choice for manual writers, web publishers, and other media professionals.

Using Snapz Pro, you can capture any portion of the screen at any time, and save it as a .pict, .gif, .jpg, .png, or .tiff file, and you can even record on-screen action as a QuickTime Movie. Screenshots can be scaled, cropped, color depth-changed, dithered, borders added, automatic thumbnails generated... you name it!

Snapz Pro is the screenshot utility that takes a minute to learn, and even less to master.

A release date for Snapz Pro X has not yet been announced, but you can see a series of screenshots of the product in development at the Ambrosia Web site.
