Apple Pays Tribute To George Harrison (With Screen Shot)

by , 9:00 AM EST, December 3rd, 2001

Over the weekend, Apple paid tribute to former Beatle George Harrison, who died on Friday. Apple has had images of Mr. Harrison featured on its home page since late Friday or early Saturday morning. Those images take the place of Apple's regular product imagery, and dominates the home page. Underneath the image is a link to some QuickTime content about George Harrison on CNN's Web site. Unlike most of the images that occupy this space, the images of George Harrison to not link to another part of Apple's Web site.

Apple is running several different images of George Harrison from different times in his life. As of this writing, the tribute images are still at Apple's home page. Thanks to TMO forum mod David Nelson for alerting us to this in our forums, and thanks to Observer Darla for her assistance with this piece.

The Mac Observer Spin:

This is nothing short of cool. What other corporate powers paid tribute to George Harrison? If you know of one, drop a note in the comments below. Also, don't underestimate the value of the home page space that Apple is dedicating to this tribute. It's among the top Web sites on the Internet, and Apple is in effect giving up a bit of advertising to do this. We think that's classy.

The Mac Observer offers our own salute to George Harrison and the amazing music that he gave to the world.
