Apple TV Teams Up With Martin Scorsese Again for “What Happens At Night”

Apple TV will stay ad-free, as Eddy Cue confirms no ad-supported tier plans, keeping Apple’s premium and privacy-focused image intact.

Apple TV and Martin Scorsese are teaming up again, this time for the upcoming Apple Original Films project “What Happens At Night,” and the film has now added Jared Harris to what was already a strong cast led by Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence. The project builds on Scorsese’s recent work with Apple and continues his collaboration with DiCaprio after their previous awards contender.

The film adapts Peter Cameron’s 2020 novel of the same name and follows a married American couple who travel to a small, snowy European town to adopt a baby. Their journey leads them to the “cavernous and eerily deserted Borgarfjaroasysla Grand Imperial Hotel,” where “the bar is always open and the restaurant serves thirteen-course dinners from centuries past,” setting the tone for a dream-like and unsettling story.

According to Deadline, Jared Harris has joined the cast alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Patricia Clarkson, and Mads Mikkelsen. The report states that Scorsese will direct and produce under his Sikelia Productions banner, while Patrick Marber adapted the screenplay from Cameron’s novel. The film is backed by Apple Original Films in partnership with Studiocanal.

Expanding Apple TV Collaboration

“What Happens At Night” marks another chapter in the ongoing partnership between Apple TV and Martin Scorsese. The two previously worked together on “Killers of the Flower Moon,” which earned 10 Academy Award nominations, as well as the documentary “Mr. Scorsese.” Scorsese also made a guest appearance in “The Studio.”

Jared Harris brings decades of stage and screen experience to the project. He has appeared in films such as “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” and “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows,” and earned acclaim for television roles in “Mad Men,” “The Crown,” and “Chernobyl.” With this lineup and creative team in place, Apple TV’s latest collaboration with Martin Scorsese is shaping up to be one of its most anticipated releases.
