Another day, another leak in the Apple world, only this one was leaked by Apple itself. In screenshots posted for the iPad User Guide For iOS 8 in the iBooks Store—and spotted by 9to5Mac—Apple posted details of the iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3, neither of which have been announced. In that the source—Apple—has the ultimate insider knowledge of Apple's goings on, it seems a sure bet that both devices will be announced during the October 16th media event.

There was some quick speculation that Apple leaked this content intentionally to suck some media attention away from some Android thing Google snuck out today. That may be so, but though the user guide's iBooks page is still viewable on the Internet, it has been pulled from the iBooks Store app on Mavericks and from the iTunes Store. Accordingly, it seems more likely it was a genuine mistake.
But, you know, if you're going to make a mistake like that, what a great time to do it.
In any event, the images published with the User Guide include the reality that both iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3 will include Touch ID. The camera on the devices will also get a Burst mode, similar to the iPhone starting with the iPhone 5. So yay!
