Apple Watch won't ship until April 24th, but it just earned a Red Dot: Best of the Best, one of the most prestigious awards in the design world. There were 4,928 entries into this year's awards—1,240 of them won awards, but only 81 earned a "Best of the Best."
Apple Watch Gets a Red Dot
Red Dot awards are decided by a jury of design experts, with 38 jurors on this year's panel. Criteria for an award include: Degree of innovation, Functionality, Formal quality, Ergonomics, Durability, Symbolic and emotional content, Product periphery, Self-explanatory quality, and Ecological compatibility.
In addition, Apple Watch was just one of two watches to earn the Best of the Best award in 2015, as noted by A Blog to Watch, a timepiece site. The other is the US$230,000 MB&F HM6 Space Pirate shown below (check out A Blog to Watch's post on this device for more information).
MB&F HM6 Space Pirate
Apple Watch has garnered a lot of attention from the design, fashion, jewelry, and horology worlds, and as noted above, it won't even ship until April 24th. If I were a betting man—and I am—I would say Apple Watch is going to be a success.
