Apple is working on a black MacBook Air, according to MacRumors. Citing unnamed sourced, the site said that “at least some models” of the next generation of Apple’s most portable Mac laptop would be offered with a black finish. Other recent rumors say that Apple will be updating the device with Thunderbolt ports, Sandy Bridge processors from Intel, and that it will ship when OS X Lion ships in July.
The report from MacRumors was based on “several anonymous tips,” though the site also said that it could not confirm said tips. The most specific source described a black anodized aluminum case would be offered as an option on one of the high-end MacBook Air models, “in much the same way as Apple once offered a high-end black MacBook on top of the standard white offerings.”
The MacBook Air has been offered only with an aluminum finish like Apple’s MacBook Pro line since it was first introduced in 2008. In our estimation, a black metal case option would likely be a hit with consumers (with apologies to our Scandinavian black metal fans).
