Apple's designer-in-chief, Sir Jony Ive, will join U2 frontman Bono at the 61st Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity in Cannes, France to talk about (RED), the AIDS charity cofounded by Bono. The two will be talking about (RED)' success in working with corporate partners like Apple, the charity's single biggest contributor.
(RED), also called Product Red, fights the spread of HIV/AIDS in Africa, funneling money to a variety of on-the-ground charities like The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. Much of the money raised by (RED) comes from companies like Apple, Starbucks, Nike, and Apple's latest acquisition, Beats Electronics. Participating companies sell (RED)-branded editions of products and donate 50 percent of the profits from those products to (RED).
Sir Jony and Bono have long been friends, and Sir jony has designed and codesigned several products auctioned off by (RED), including rose-gold Apple EarPods and a gorgeous (RED) Mac Pro. Sir Jony curated a collection of these one-off items for (RED) with fellow designer Marc Newson. That auction raised some $44 millions for the charity.
