On your iOS device, it’s simple to go to the next line in the Messages app. You just hit the Return button, and your work is done. It’s pretty self-explanatory.
But what about in Messages on your Mac? If you hit Return while you’re typing, you’ll send the message you’re working on, which can be awkward.
And let’s face it—it’s hard to type poetry without being able to put in line breaks. What? You never type poetry through Messages? You’re missing out.
So to rectify this, just hit Control-Return, and Messages’ll insert a carriage return instead of sending your message to its recipient. And you can poetry it up to your heart’s content. Or I can, at least, and you guys can use it for whatever you want.
As a final note, this works in iChat, too, for those of you who haven’t made the leap to the Messages Beta.
