The Federal Communications Commission has approved Apple’s new MagSafe Duo charger, and it’s likely we’ll see it released by the end of the year, perhaps even by the end of November.
FCC MagSafe Duo Approval
Filed as a “two coil charger” with the model number A2458, the charger can power an Apple Watch and iPhone 12 at the same time. It’s listed on Apple’s website as “coming soon” and costs US$129. Many reviews published on Monday call the charger “overpriced” and “underwhelming.”
From Matthew Panzarino:
But that folding is where we start to get to the iffy stuff. For context, you have to understand that this thing is $129 but feels like it should be $70. When you realize that it is a charger that doesn’t come with a power adapter, I would not be shocked if you mentally downgraded it to $40.
Meanwhile, from Dieter Bohn:
It is a well-made object, to be sure. There are magnets that hold it together when it’s folded in either direction. The hinge on the Watch charger is firm and smooth. The heft of the whole object helps make it feel nicer, and it is somewhat satisfying to snap closed. It also helps ensure the whole kit and caboodle doesn’t vibrate off the table when you get a phone call.
