STEAM Education
The Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) provides after-school programs for kids. It’s approach focuses on three areas:
- Providing safe and fun places for kids to grow and thrive.
- Delivering engaging programs focused on academics, health, and leadership.
- Offering trained staff who guide, coach, and motivate kids to be successful.
For example, the Boys & Girls Club of Atlantic City has created a series of technology labs as part of their 21st Century Academic Enrichment Program. These labs focus on five areas called STEAM: Science, technology, engineering, art, and math. Kids will also receive career training.
10-year-old Dulce Santiago enjoys the labs:
I’ve never been included in stuff like this before — building things with other people — so it’s a fun opportunity. It makes me feel excited and happy, and like finally part of something.
Both the STEAM Lab and Design Lab incorporate Apple programs like Everyone Can Code, Everyone Can Create, and Develop in Swift.
