Apple has launched a new product on Tuesday called AirPods Max. This is a wireless, over-the-ear headset with high-fidelity audio, active noise cancellation, and spatial audio. AirPods Max is available to order today for US$549, and will start shipping on December 15. They come in five colors: space gray, silver, sky blue, green, and pink.
AirPods Max
AirPods Max feature a 40-mm Apple-designed dynamic driver that provides rich, deep bass, accurate mid-ranges, and crisp, clean high-frequency extension. A dual neodymium ring magnet motor allows AirPods Max to maintain total harmonic distortion of less than 1 percent across the entire audible range, even at maximum volume.
The canopy is covered in a breathable knit fabric to distribute weight and reduce on-head pressure, while the headband itself is made of stainless steel. Each ear piece can independently pivot and rotate to fit the unique contours of a user’s head. One of the pieces has a Digital Crown like the Apple Watch to control volume and play or pause audio, skip tracks, answer or end phone calls, and activate Siri.
Apple says AirPods Max battery can deliver up to 20 hours of high-fidelity audio, talk time, or movie playback with Active Noise Cancellation and spatial audio enabled. It comes with a Smart Case that puts AirPods Max in an ultralow power state that helps to preserve battery charge when not in use.
In the short time since the announcement, and my ability to take a break and check this out, the delay time for the Sky Blue variant is already 12 – 14 weeks. I can get the Space Grey by 31 December. My second choice, but…crikey. Demand is either brisk, or the pre-rollout market analysis was poorly aimed.
