Why I Switched from Windows to Mac

Growing up, I was primarily exposed to Windows products. We were taught in school how to use a PC and the entire office software. I barely knew people who owned any Apple product back then. I also had a notion that it’s difficult to use a Mac, not to mention that it’s expensive. Like many in our area, I thought Apple was just for the rich. So, why did I switch from Windows to Mac?

Fast-forward to 2018, when I decided to start freelancing full-time, one of my clients gave me his pre-loved MacBook Air because my PC kept crashing. The MacBook was a used mid-2012 model, but it performed way better than my Windows computer, even with all those years. “Is this for real?” I thought back then—I was fascinated.

Since then, I switched to Apple, bought a brand-new Mac for myself, and never looked back. Here are some reasons why I’ll stay invested in the Apple ecosystem.

1. Smooth Performance

Everything loads faster on Mac. I never experienced any app crashes or frozen screens, even on the old MacBook Air I had. The risk of losing work to technical issues virtually disappeared. Mac’s performance is just so smooth I can literally keep dozens of tabs and apps open simultaneously.

This level of performance proves that macOS is optimized for the hardware it’s built on. Apps are designed to work well with the operating system, reducing crashes and bugs. Also, Mac updates are straightforward—you can keep your system up-to-date with the latest features and security patches.

2. Integration with Other Apple Devices

I also have an iPhone and iPad, and using a Mac has made my life easier. Features like AirDrop and iCloud have allowed me to shift from one device to another. I can access my files, emails, and messages across my devices.

For example, I can start an email on my iPhone and finish it on my Mac without missing a beat. I can receive and answer calls on my Mac, and I can even use my iPad as a second display for Mac. This is one of the best reasons why I switched from Windows to Mac.

3. Security

Macs are often considered more secure than Windows PCs, and I can say from my experience that it’s true. While it’s not 100% immune to viruses and malware, the built-in security features that MacOS has are usually enough to protect our data.

While I had to worry about opening files and downloading software on Windows, it’s different on Mac. I have never had an experience with files or software loading too slowly because of viruses.

Apple also places a strong emphasis on user privacy and data protection, which can give you peace of mind.

4. Build Quality and Sleek Design

Mac devices have high-quality hardware and sleek designs. The display offers vibrant colors and sharp images. The look also doesn’t change drastically in every new model, but there’s just that consistent high-end, elegant, and premium feel about Macs. It’s minimalist yet sophisticated.

Likewise, they’re lightweight and durable. I think Apple really pays attention to the smallest details that enhance usability, like the smooth hinge mechanism and the backlit keyboard.

5. User-Friendly Interface

When I switched to a Mac, I quickly debunked the myth that “Apple computers are hard to use.” On the contrary, they’re user-friendly. The macOS interface is clean and intuitive, making it easy to navigate, even for first-time Mac owners. For example, the Dock at the bottom of the screen makes it simple to access your favorite apps quickly.

It wasn’t also hard to transition from Windows to Mac. The terms and buttons may be different, but they function just similarly to each other. So, it’s not really difficult to navigate Mac.

6. Complete Basic Apps and Software

You don’t have to buy any additional software to get started with a Mac and make the most of it. It comes with a variety of built-in software that you can use for everyday tasks. I like that it already has programs like Pages, Numbers, and Keynote. They’re included for free, so you don’t have to worry about not having the basic tools you need for productivity and creativity.

Apart from the basics, macOS comes with high-quality, pre-installed applications that cover a wide range of needs. There’s Safari for fast web browsing, Photos for managing and editing photos, and FaceTime for video calls.

So that’s why I switched from Windows to Mac. It’s been a game-changer for my productivity and overall user experience. It’s safe to say that I am now a dedicated Mac user and can confidently recommend it to others seeking a powerful, reliable, and user-friendly computing experience.

  • Totally agree ! I got a 16 inch MacBook Pro M1 Max. 10-core CPU, 32-core GPU, 32-GB RAM and 2-TB SSD. No matter what you throws at it, I can run 10-20 apps at the same time without any performance issues. Loving it!
