During the WWDC last month, Apple finally announced its AI plans, debuting Apple Intelligence with upcoming iOS 18, macOS 15, and more. At the same event, Apple formally announced its partnership with ChatGPT-parent OpenAI to integrate the chatbot into iOS 18.
Subsequently, reports emerged claiming that Apple and the OpenAI deal doesn’t include a monetary exchange between the parties. A new report from Bloomberg highlights that, as a part of the deal, Apple’s Phil Schiller will be joining OpenAI’s board of directors in an observer role.
While Phil Schiller will participate in meetings, he won’t have any voting powers. Nevertheless, it’s still a huge thing, as Bloomberg notes, it’s rare for Apple executives to join the board directors of the companies they partner with. That said, the arrangements begin later this week, and according to the publication, Schiller has yet to take part in any meetings.
Apple’s iOS 18 18 is one of the most anticipated and significant updates in history. It will shape what the tech industry has been about since the launch of OpenAI’s ChatGPT, or generative AI, in simpler terms. It’s still in the developer beta phase and is expected to arrive this fall, coinciding with the iPhone 16 launch, if everything goes well.
