If you have a penchant for having ambient sound playing in the background while you work, study, or meditate, you must try using Background Sounds built into iOS. It’s one of those secretly packed features I recommend to every friend.
While iOS already offers over six different background sounds, it’s bringing two more sounds with the upcoming iOS 18 update. With iOS 18, there will be eight different background sounds, including Balanced Noise, Bright Noise, Dark Noise, Ocean, Rain, Stream, and the latest additions: Night and Fall (via MacRumors).
Apple first introduced Background Sounds with iOS 15, and I’d say it’s one of the most underrated features. You don’t need any third-party apps to enjoy it. “Enjoy” might be the wrong word here, so let’s stick with “soothe yourself.” Besides iPhones, you can also play Background Sounds on your Mac.
As you know, iOS 18 is currently available as a developer beta, and you should avoid installing it unless you’re a developer or for testing purposes. A public beta is expected soon, while the full version will debut alongside the upcoming iPhone 16 series at the usual fall event.
