Reports offer insight into Apple’s rumored camera plans for upcoming iPhone models. The information discusses a continued focus on the company’s tetraprism camera technology, with possible sensor resolution and optical zoom improvements across future iPhones, including iPhone 17, 18, and 19.
iPhone 16 (later this year): Leaks indicate an increase in iPhones featuring the tetraprism camera system, and hence expanding beyond the Pro models in the iPhone 16 lineup.
iPhone 17 (expected late 2025): The high-end 17 models could have a big camera upgrade, a larger 48MP sensor compared to the 12MP sensor in current models. The specs also mention the redesigned prism system, which will maintain a slim camera profile despite the larger sensor. It’s unclear if this upgrade would be exclusive to the Pro variants of the iPhone 17 model.
iPhone 18 (expected late 2026): Depending on the final specs of the iPhone 17 Pro variant, the iPhone 18 could inherit the rumored 48MP sensor upgrade if it’s not already included in the iPhone 17 lineup.
iPhone 19 (expected late 2027) might feature even bigger camera improvements and focus on improved optical zoom capabilities. The prism system could be significantly redesigned. This iPhone might also come with a foldable variant.
