Apple today took the wraps off its HomePod mini smart speaker in a new “midnight” color. The new mini is made with 100 percent recycled mesh, according to Apple, and stands 3.3 inches tall. You may be familiar with the new Midnight color, which matches a shade of MacBook Air, technically a deep blue with a hint of black.
Initially, Apple launched the HomePod mini in two classic colors: Space Gray and White, but kept adding new flavors. Today, it joins the other available HomePod mini color options, like yellow, orange, blue, and white.
Siri isn’t as strong as Alexa or Google Assistant right now, and this isn’t subjective. Apple’s HomePods can’t handle their own advanced AI due to weaker chips. However, the HomePod mini sounds surprisingly good given its small size, and AirPlay makes it handy for playing stuff from your iPhone.
“With the intelligence of Siri, HomePod mini also offers convenient ways to manage everyday tasks and control the smart home,” Apple says. “Users can create smart home automations, get notified when a smoke or carbon monoxide alarm is detected in their home, check temperature and humidity in a room, and use Intercom to send an announcement throughout the house — all hands-free.”
You can buy the newly launched HomePod mini in midnight color at the same $99 price tag on July 17th in the US and other countries including Canada, China, India, Singapore, and more.
