Nicholas Allegra, who earned fame as the iOS jailbreak wizard Comex, no longer has his internship with Apple after he failed to reply to an email offering him another year on the job.
“So… no point in delaying. As of last week, after about a year, I'm no longer associated with Apple,” he said on Twitter. “Because I forgot to reply to an email.”
Mr. Allegra joined Apple in August 2011, and while he didn't say what his duties would be during his internship, it's a pretty safe bet he was involved in iPhone and iPad-related security.
Apple offered Mr. Allegra a second year internship through an email, and failing to respond effectively closed the door on his relationship with the company.
“I wasn't too happy about it, but it didn't seem like I was able to fix it,” he told Forbes. “So that's what it is.”
As for what's on his plate next, don't expect to see any new jailbreak tools from him any time soon. His contract with Apple most likely prevents him from hacking iOS, and for now he's interested on focusing on his college education.
That doesn't, however, mean he's out of the hacking game. Mr. Allegra hinted that he may have his eyes on Nintendo's new Wii U, and with his skills that could be a very interesting prospect.
