Rapoo has released a new mouse (model 7100P) that is designed for gamers and others who need either slower mouse movement or faster mouse movement. The mouse movement is measured in dots per inch (DPI), the same term we use for measuring pixels in photos, screens, printers, etc. When used in reference to a mouse, it represents the sensitivity of the sensor/tracking engine. The higher the DPI, the faster the cursor moves with mouse movements. In the case of this mouse, users can flip between 500 or 1000 DPI with a special button built into the top of the mouse.

This mouse also features 5 gigahertz anti-interference wireless transmissions. According to the developers, 5 gigahertz wireless transmission avoids the 2.4 gigahertz wireless channel use, eliminating interference from Bluetooth and Wi-Fi equipment. Other features of this product include a battery that lasts up to 18 months, up/down and side to side scrolling in documents or browser, and a textured grip. It's available in four color styles.

Using the Product
This is a very comfortable mouse. It's easy to use and easy to manipulate. Users can quickly tell the difference between the 500 and 1000 DPI option. I tested this function with a game, but I also was curious about other uses and tested it by modifying a photo which is something I would be more likely to do. The faster DPI was definitely an asset while playing a fast paced game although my game is fairly tame as measured by those played by active gamers. I found that I scored higher when using the 1000 DPI option.
For modifying a photo, I used the 500 DPI option. I engaged in tedious modifications – removing wrinkles from a face. I found it somewhat easier to navigate and accomplish my goals using the slower DPI option.
Another feature of this mouse that I liked is the storage area in the battery compartment for the USB wireless dongle. In many mouse units the wireless storage is underneath the mouse and hard to get to. In the 7100P, the dongle storage is situated right next to the batteries, and it's is easy to get to and slip the dongle into the mouse for travel.

Do I Recommend it?
I do. It is very reasonably priced at US39.95, and the special features should make it attractive to gamers. It felt good in my hand.
