I know there are more to these things than specs but you never gave a direct spec comparison or better yet a real world comparison between the Extreme and the synology routers?
Both are 3 band and the airport is beam forming (best I can tell 3 stream) which puts the higher end synology a step up but not a big one. Both support external drives and both allow for external access to those drives (I’d argue that Apple’s back to my mac style of accessing the drive is about as easy as can be).
So my current setup includes two current airport time capsules and two airport express extensions (mostly for music but side benefit of coverage) all hardwired to the central router. (so even better than mesh for backhaul). So what would swapping out my main router with synology give me beside a headache in getting the other 3 routers configured.
