A number of online retailers in China discounted iPhones for the second time in 2019 this week. The devices included the iPhone XS with as much as 1,700 yuan ($253) of their official price (via Reuters).
Sales Slowdowns and Price Cuts
Suning.com took 1,000 yuan ($149) of the price of the iPhone XS, while Pinduoduo started selling a 64GB version of the device for 6999 yuan ($1,043). That is over 1,000 yuan off its official price. Elsewhere, JD.com offered discounts on the iPhone XS and XS Max, as well as other Apple products. It sold the latter device with a 1,700 yuan discount.
This week’s discounts are the second time Chinese retailers have discounted iPhones. Suning.com and JD did not include the iPhone XS during the first round of price cuts back in January. The discounts followed an ongoing slowdown of iPhone sales in China, the world’s largest smartphone market.
