Check It Out: BBEdit Returns to Mac App Store after Four Years
I wish you would have reported on any differences between the App store version and the one from their website if there are any. They had to make compromises in the past. I wonder if that is still true?
Another app I won’t be using due to subscription pricing.
I think you can still buy it outright on their website.
Let’s see… to get the pro tools you have to pay $3.99 per month via the Mac App store which comes out to $47.88 or you can go to their website and pay $49.00 one time.
Where you lose a bit is on a version upgrade. You will still be paying $3.99 a month but the version upgrade will be $39.00.
However, you do not have to pay for anything. If you use BBEdit in free mode only, it is a very capable editor. I use BBEdit without paying for the extras at work and, so far, there is only one feature that I miss–but I found a way around it.
Their motto is “It doesn’t suck.” No, it doesn’t. And if giving them a few shekels means it will continue not to suck, I will gladly pay!
I wonder how this affects those of us bought the upgrade directly from them.
