File this under, “we suspected that might happen.” CNBC writes:
Samsung’s $1,980 Galaxy Fold phone is breaking for some users after a day or two of use. A review unit given to CNBC by Samsung is also completely unusable after just two days of use.
Maybe the customers are holding it wrong. Android Central also has details.
Check It Out: Galaxy Fold is Breaking for Some Users
As many predicted this is a dogs breakfast.
An expensive dogs breakfast.
Unfortunately, in this three dimensional world which we live in, even the thinnest of films still have finite thickness. Which means if you fold such a film, the outer surface of the crease will somehow have to stretch more than the inner surface of said crease. Given the differential tensile stresses between the inner and outer surfaces of said crease, one would think that repeated folding and unfolding of the film along that crease would eventually lead to the film failing at the crease, no? (Okay, I exclude the case of a graphene film one carbon atom thick.)
Where did I hear “you’re holding it wrong” before? hmmmm oh yeah, iPhone’s Antenna-gate.
No shit, Sherlock. 😉
Priceless. +5
