Apple’s AirPods lineup is set for new updates. New AirPods 4 models and updates to AirPods Max are planned for later in 2024, while AirPods Pro will receive their turn in 2025 feat. AirPods Lite.
AirPods 4 takes center stage, arriving in two variants by the end of 2024. Both might have a fresh design with shorter stems and a USB-C charging case. Noise cancellation might be introduced in the higher-end model, which also gets a Find My upgrade with a built-in speaker case. But how would you react when I told you a user has already found a clever alternative?
There are also rumors of a possible AirPods Lite, a lower-cost version of AirPods 4, or even a separate product entirely. This could be a budget-friendly entry point with a rumored price tag of $99. Apple seems to be getting more budget-friendly, as an Apple Vision “Lite” might also be under consideration.
AirPods Max receive a minor update in late 2024, with the only change being a switch to USB-C charging.
AirPods Pro fans will have to wait a bit longer. Their update will arrive in 2025, bringing a new design, a new chip, and possibly even health-focused features. It will be the 3rd variant of AirPods Pros, first released in 2018. Apple is also planning to bring AirPods with built-in cameras sometime in the future.
Apple seems to be going all-in on AirPods 4, with reports suggesting they might discontinue older AirPods models (2 and 3) and plan their biggest AirPods launch ever. With two variants and potentially a budget option, Apple appears to cater to a wider range of consumers.
I hope Apple adds voice control features like “Volume Up/Down” or “Next/Previous Song” similar to those available in the new Samsung Galaxy Buds 3 Pros. They work like a charm.
