If you've used your Mac for any length of time, you've probably had a need to take quick notes. Although the Stickies application that comes with the Mac OS is a good candidate for this purpose, there may be times when you'd like to speak what's on your mind, rather than type it. Unfortunately, the built-in Mac OS sound tools aren't that great, but fortunately, there's QuickVoice.

QuickVoice is an application, with both OS 9 and OS X versions, that will let you record, organize and play back recordings. This is particularly useful for owners of a Mac portable, which all have some sort of built-in microphone. QuickVoice allows you to record individual messages, and associate them with a specific "channel." The trial version allows 2 channels and 5 recordings per channel, and limits each recording to 6 seconds. The full version allows 10 channels, 99 recordings per channel, and unlimited recording length.

QuickVoice has a Clean, Simple Interface

But QuickVoice doesn't stop at simple recording and playback. The "Voice Email" feature allows you take a recording and send it to others as an e-mail. Currently, there's support for OS X Mail, Entourage and Outlook Express, with more sure to come. You can also create Voice Stickies, similar to regular Stickies, but they consist of both text and sound. Just like with regular Stickies, you can select one of several colors.

Finally, you can spice things and change the QuickVoice appearance by selecting one of several bundled faces, such as Alloy Blue, Socket, Vpen, Ven Aqua and X Interface. So start making the most of your Mac's microphone, and be sure to check out QuickVoice.
