KeyCamX 2.0 ($10 Time Limited Demoware) Sure, the iSight camera is a great complement to Apple's iChat AV, allowing you to not only chat using text, but to also include audio and video in your chatting experience; but there's so much more that you could be doing with your iSight camera. One is that you can now use it to make movies with the new iMovie. KeyCamX offers yet another option... KeyCamX is a program that turns your Mac and iSight camera into either a webcam server, or a security system. In the webcam mode, you are offered a wealth of options. You can select the size and quality of the image, the frequency at which images are captured, and even apply an optional caption and time/date stamp to the image itself. The resulting HTML and image files are thoughtfully saved in your user "Sites" folder, so they can be shared by simply activating Web Sharing and directing your users to http://<your ip address>/~<your user name>/mywebcam.html.
For those who would rather not host a Web server from the machine used to capture images, KeyCamX can also transfer your HTML and image files to a remote server using the FTP protocol. There's also the option to archive all of the captured images, so you can peruse them at a later date. This can be useful for the webcam mode, but can be especially useful in the Motion Detection mode. The KeyCamX Motion Detection mode can be the basis for a simple but effective security system. You can of course set the sensitivity of the motion detection, from "Extremely Sensitive" to "Elephant Hunt," depending on the environment your camera is in. As an added bonus, when the camera detects motion, you can also play a sound, and for even more flexibility, execute an AppleScript. So be sure to get the most out of your iSight or other video camera, and try KeyCamX today! Have any other gadgets that let you get the most out of your iSight?
