Apple has finally released the first public betas of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, a month after announcing the latest software during the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). Thus far, Apple has rolled out three rounds (and one revised batch) of developer beta updates for the upcoming software, expected to debut during the upcoming fall event.
You already know that iOS 18 is among the biggest iPhone updates ever, thanks to Apple Intelligence, RCS messaging, and several new features. While most of it seems to be already available with iOS 18 Developer Beta 3, the latest iOS 18 public beta 1 makes these features accessible to general users who can now finally test the upcoming software without needing a developer account.
How to Install First Betas of iOS 18 or iPadOS 18 on iPhones or iPads?
Installing the latest iOS 18 or iPadOS 18 beta 1 on your iPhone or iPad is a simple process. If you’ve already joined Apple’s beta testing program, open the Settings app > General > Software Update > Choose the iOS 18 Public Beta or iPadOS 18 Public Beta. That’s it.
We also have a detailed iOS 18 Beta installation guide, which you can (and must) check out.
iOS 18 packs a ton of new features, while most of Apple Intelligence is kept under wraps for a fall release. This isn’t surprising given that Apple wants to save something for the event, or maybe, it’s likely because some features may not be coming right away and we might have to wait for it. Regardless, iOS 18 is still an experience if you have a penchant for customization.
On the same note, I don’t suggest installing even public betas on your primary device since these are pre-release software. But, yes, it’s comparatively stabler than the developer betas. iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS 15 Sequoia, and so on, are expected to debut to everyone this fall.
