Apple today released the first public betas of iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS Sequoia, and so on. You’ll have a new Photos app Recovered feature when you update your iPhone, iPad, and Mac to the latest software. It helps you get back those pictures and videos that have been lost or damaged.
What happens is that sometimes certain photos and videos can be lost due to problems with database corruption, pictures taken with a camera app that didn’t save properly to the Photos library, or third-party apps that have access to manage your Photo Library. In either case, you lose a piece of memory, and up until now, there wasn’t a straightforward way to get them back. In fact, I personally have lost some because my iPhone glitched while I was taking a snap.
With the latest software available to the public, there’s now a Recovered album in the Utilities section of the Photos app. It appears if there are photos or videos on your device that aren’t in your main Photos Library, potentially because they were deleted. You can open this album to decide whether to delete or restore those items.
As of today, iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS Sequoia, and other versions are available as developer betas and public betas. These updates are expected to debut this fall, around the time when Apple takes the wraps off the iPhone 16 series.
