XtremeMac has recently released an iPad case to add to their extensive line of iPhone and iPod cases. Like the previous cases, the iPad case is sturdy and flexible, but it has no face covering for the iPad. (see review) Also like the previous cases, XtremeMac has created a Tuffshield anti-glare product designed to cover the from of the iPad from top to bottom.
XtremeMac Tuffshield Anti-Glare Screen Protector
One Tuffshield and one cleaning cloth come packaged together at a MSRP of $24.99. The Tuffshield is composed of four layers of “state of the art materials” that are designed to protect the face of the iPad from dirt, dust, and scratches. There is an anti-glare matte finish and it uses static cling to adhere to the iPad surface. The Tufshield is warranted against defects for 2 years.
Using It
It took awhile to apply the shield because of the bubbles that always form in this situation. The shield came equipped with an extending tab that made it easy to remove the shield from the enclosed backing and also to raise the shield as needed to replace or remove bubbles.
The shield is quite sturdy, unlike any like products that I have tried in the past for my iPhone. Once in place it does not slip. It does not decrease my ability to use my iPad either, which was also a problem with similar products I tried on my iPhone. I gave it quite a test for this, playing several games and typing a good deal directly on the iPad virtual keyboard.
Once I felt the shield was fully in place, I also tested it by putting on and taking off several iPad cases to see how it held up. It did not move around at all under this stress.
Do I Recommend It
If you like using a shield, carry your iPad around a lot, or do any other kind of activity that puts it in areas where it might get dirty or scratched, then I do recommend it. Prior to testing it, I probably would not have purchased it for myself simply because I have not had good experiences with iPhone shields. Now that I have had the opportunity to test it, I plan to continue using it. On the surface $24.99 may seem like a high price for a shield, but you get what you pay for and this product does have a 2 year warranty against defects.
