Apple’s Mail application on the iPhone and iPod touch is fine for viewing messages on the go, but it doesn’t show as much information about the emails you receive as your desktop email app does. The mobile Mail app does, however, include a handy option that lets you see a bit more about who sent the message, and even lets you change the message status back to Unread.
To see the extra details in an email message you have received on your iPhone or iPod touch, start by selecting the message you want to view. Now tap Details — you can find it at the far right side of the message’s From field.
Tap Details to reveal the detailed message view…
Mail should dutifully show you the From and To fields, message subject, and the message time stamp, but the real gem in the Details view is the Mark as Unread option. I sometimes use that feature to change a message’s status back to unread so I remember to follow up on it after I get back to my office.
…tap Hide to return to the regular message view.
Once you are finished with the Details view, just tap Hide to return to Mail’s regular message view. Jeff Gamet is TMO’s Managing Editor and Reviews Editor.
