I think it’s an adapter to allow you to use a micro SD card instead of a regular SD. That allows it to have a smaller profile and be flush with the outside edge of your Macbook. An SD card typically protrudes from the side a good bit.
Please pardon my ignorance… it seems the card is plugged into something called an “SD card port”. So why do you need an adapter to plug in an SD card?
