List of Macs That Will Run Yosemite

OS X Yosemite promises to make it easier to share information with your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, can send and receive calls through your iPhone, more powerful Spotlight searches, iCloud Drive support, a redesigned interface that takes visual cues from iOS 7 and iOS 8, and more.

The short answer to the question of which Macs support OS X Yosemite is pretty simple: If your Mac supports OS X Mavericks, it supports Yosemite, too. That said, sometimes a chart helps, too.

Yosemite Compatible Mac Models
Model Year
MacBook 13-inch Early 2009 or later
MacBook 13-inch (aluminum) Late 2008
MacBook Air 2008 or later
MacBook Pro 13-inch Mid 2009 or later
MacBook Pro 15-inch Mid and Late 2007 or later
MacBook Pro 17-inch Late 2007 or later
iMac Mid 2007 or later
Mac Pro Early 2008 or later
Mac mini Early 2009 or later
Xserve Early 2009

Checking to see which model Mac you have is pretty simple. Just go to Apple menu > About This Mac, then click More Info. You'll see your model year listed just below the model name.

Apple has been pushing out updated versions of what it hopes will be the shipping version of OS X Yosemite to beta testers, and Thursday's media event would be a perfect time to announce an official release date. Yosemite will be a free update through Apple's Mac App Store.
