While Apple is busy prepping macOS 15 Sequoia for public release this fall, it hasn’t forgotten about macOS 14 Sonoma.
Apple is rolling out macOS 14.6 Sonoma beta 2 for public testers, following the debut of the second round of developer betas for the same version. It comes nearly two weeks after Apple pushed the first public beta.
The recent macOS Sonoma 14.6 developer betas didn’t reveal any new features for Mac, as noted by folks at MacRumors. It’s uncertain what might be included in the final release. With Apple focusing on macOS Sequoia now, development on macOS Sonoma seems to be winding down, suggesting it likely packs some bug squashes and nothing major.
As a piece of advice, you should avoid installing these public betas, especially on your primary device(s) as these are pre-release software.
However, if you would like to proceed anyway, you can enable the macOS Sonoma Public Beta in the System Settings app under the Software Update section. Keep in mind that you must first register on Apple’s beta testing website to join.
Alongside macOS 14.6 beta 2 for public testers, Apple released the second round of public betas for iOS 17.6, iPadOS 17.6, watchOS 10.6, and so on.
There’s no release timeframe for the stable version of macOS 14.6. Meanwhile, Apple is expected to release macOS 15 Sequoia this fall, alongside other major software updates.
