Apple released iOS 11.2.5 Tuesday for iPhones and iPads. iOS 11.2.5 also includes bug fixes, and the security patch notes specify some 13 different security holes plugged. Security areas include holes in audio, Bluetooth, several kernel issues, some other low-level areas, and three issues in WebKit, the browser engine in iOS.

iOS 11.2.5 is a 178MB over-the-air (OTA) download on iPhone X. You can also update through iTunes on Mac and Windows. My OTA update went smoothly—please drop your update experience in the comments below.

    1. I was advised to do a DFU reset on my ailing iPhone 6 and that has got it up and running again. I’m thinking my battery is perhaps the cause of the problems as the phone is getting very warm during normal use.

Apple apps, like messages, take several seconds to launch to a state where you can use/interact with them. Everything seems incredibly slow. Maybe the battery needs replacing and maybe the phone’s performance is being severely throttled.

      1. Hey Q—I wanted to make sure you knew about the discounted battery replacements Apple is offering. If you can take it to an Apple Store for a look-see, do so.

  • Just updated my iPhone 6 to the new iOS 11.2.5. Update and installation seem to go ok, then when the iPhone restarted, it became slow and unresponsive, so I cleared all the open apps (swiped up on each), then hit the sleep wake button to put it to sleep as it was quite warm.

Picked it up 10mins later and it had shut off. Now won’t restart, or respond and plugging it in to my iMac doesn’t seem to do anything either.

Looks like it’s dead. Looks like iOS 11.2.5 just killed my iPhone.
