MacBook Pro: Now Available in Space Black
Alongside a wealth of announcements, Apple also announced during its Scary Fast event that the M3 Pro and M3 Max MacBook Pro will now come in Space Black, which is a gorgeous dark finish made of aluminium. The M3 Max and M3 Pro series of MacBooks also arrive in silver. The 14-inch M3 MacBook Pro arrives in Space Gray and Silver.
For longtime Apple fans, this is great news, as Apple last released the “BlackBook” or black MacBook, in 2006. Apple fans did get a taste of black with the ‘Midnight’ color featured with the MacBook Air in 2022. However, this release was marred by the finish constantly scuffing from fingerprints. Of course, the new iMac lineup also features a multitude of color options.
The new finish on the 2023 MacBook Pros, however, promises to avoid the fingerprint issue. Featuring “breakthrough chemistry”, the finish itself forms an anodization seal which helps prevent scuffing. Additionally, the new enclosure has components sourced from 100% recycled aluminum thanks to a custom alloy. This decision for the enclosure is of course part of the company’s pledge to be entirely carbon neutral by 2030.
Space Black Accessories
Along with the M3 Pro and M3 Max models receiving the new space black finish option, Apple also announced a USB-C to MagSafe 3 cable that will arrive in Space Black. While those who purchase the new MacBook Pro will receive a color-matching MagSafe 3 charging cable, those who want the new cable separately will also have that option.
It’s also worth noting that the new cable also works with the M2 MacBook Air, both the 13-inch and 15-inch models. Of course, the MagSafe tech allows the charging cable to fit snugly in the charging port, allowing it to easily disconnect via the magnet if something or someone trips into the cable.
More About the M3
In addition to announcing a new color scheme for certain MacBook Pro models, the new Pros also feature the revolutionary M3 chip. Offering up to 22 hours of battery life, the new chip arrives as a standard M3, M3 Pro and M3 Max. According to Apple, the new 14-inch M3 MacBook Pro is up to 60 percent faster than the M1 13-inch MacBook Pro.
With the new series of MacBook Pros already available, prices for the new MacBook Pro series start at $1,599 for the 14-inch M3, whereas the 14-inch M3 Pro starts at $1,999. The 16-inch MacBook Pro starts at $2,499. The new MacBook Pro series is available for pre-order now and will begin shipping Tuesday, Nov. 7.
