Apple Buys Bluetooth Headset Maker Wi-Gear

Wi-Gear’s Web site isn’t offering up any details, although it does now state “Wi-Gear has ceased operations and is no longer in business. We will be unable to respond to any inquiries.”

Wi-Gear: We’re closed

Apparently Apple plans to build its own stereo Bluetooth wireless headsets for Macs and iOS devices and decided to pick up a company that already has some experience instead of starting from scratch with its own designs.

Wi-Gear isn’t answering any questions and Apple is maintaining its usual tight-lipped stance, so there isn’t any official confirmation that the buyout actually happened. With Mr. Kim’s LinkedIn profile indicating he’s working for Apple, it seems likely the anonymous sources for this rumor are correct.
