Apple CEO Tim Cook ranked as one of TIME's most influential people for 2015
Mr. Cook's entry on the list was penned by Congressman John Lewis (D-GA), who is also a civil rights proponent. He said,
Tim is unwavering in his support of an individual's right to privacy and is not only embracing equality and LGBT rights but advocating for change through his words and actions. His commitment to renewable energy is also leaving our planet a little cleaner and a little greener for generations yet unborn.
Mr. Lewis also noted that Mr. Cook has pushed Apple to even higher profitability since taking over from Steve Jobs as the company's CEO. “[Tim] has shown that profitability and integrity can go hand in hand,” he said.
Mr. Cook previously made TIME's list in 2012 after taking over as Apple CEO from Steve Jobs.
Airbnb founder Brian Chesky's place on TIME's list has an Apple tie, too, because his entry was written by the company's design chief Sir Jonathan Ive. He said Mr. Chesky's “audacity is fabulous,” and that Airbnb is “soaringly ambitious and utterly practical.”
