Apple Links To Crazy Apple Rumor Spoof Of Al Gore Appointment

A

pple has shown that it has a sense of humor, at least some of the time. In wake of the companyis announcement to appoint Al Gore to its board of directors, a fire storm of debate, though we use the term loosely, has erupted from all corners of the Mac community. Most of the debate has been the Internet equivalent "Youire a poopoo head, so I am right, and your side sucks, and besides Al Gore (did/did not) invent the Internet so youire a poopoo head."

The Crazy Apple Rumors Site (CARS), one of our very favorite Mac sites, took a different approach to reporting the development, as they always do. Referencing the election debacle of 2000, CARS published a report saying that the Bush administration had demanded a recount of the Apple Boardis vote. Sparing no camps in the issue, CARS used Apple, the Bush administration, Steve Jobs, and even our friends at MacNN in their spoof. From CARS:

In the wake of Appleis announcement late yesterday that former Vice President Al Gore was elected to the companyis board of directors, President George Bush announced this morning that he would demand a recount.

"I am sure that when the votes are tallied again," Bush press secretary Ari Fleischer said, "Apple will find that President Bush was, in fact, named to the board, not Mr. Gore."

Apple CEO Steve Jobs weighed in on the developing controversy by saying "Iim not sure what the heck heis talking about. It was a unanimous vote. I can read it back to you. Jobs: yea. Campbell: yea. Drexler: yea…"

Where Appleis sense of humor enters is when the company linked to the CARS story in its own Hot News site. Appleis Hot News is usually used as a platform for promoting, and sometimes publishing, positive news about Apple and the Mac platform, mainly from mainstream media outlets. The company chose to use the CARS link to acknowledge the debate, and to show it has a sense of humor about the situation.
