Mac users can breathe a sigh of relief as Apple has announced a relaxation of its strict screen recording permissions in the latest beta of macOS Sequoia. Users have been criticizing Apple for the frequent pop-ups requiring reauthorization for screen recording apps. It’s currently in public beta.
In response to user feedback, Apple has extended the permission period for screen recording apps from a week to a month. This means users will now be prompted to reauthorize their apps less frequently, hence, fewer popups and distractions.
Apple has also clarified the permission message to better inform users about the probable access granted to recording apps. The pop-up now explicitly states that the app will have access to both screen and audio, including potentially sensitive information.
“[App Name] is requesting to bypass the system private window picker and directly access your screen and audio. This will allow [App Name] to record your screen and system audio, including personal or sensitive information that may be visible or audible.”
Users still cannot grant permanent permission to screen recording apps. Apple has removed the requirement to reauthorize apps after restarting the Mac, offering some relief to users.
It remains to be seen if this monthly frequency will be sufficient to appease users or if further adjustments are needed. Here’s how you can install macOS 15 on your device.
