September 15
Amid rumors that Apple was going to release devices today, we’ve learned that the real announcement is the yearly iPhone event. What will we see?
- A new iPhone, either an iPhone 12 or iPhone 11s. All rumors so far have mentioned “12”
- Apple Watch Series 6
- iPad Air?
- ARM-based MacBooks?
- AirTags?
Apple shared the announcement on its Events web page.
What? No HomePod mini?
Having belatedly purchased a HomePod, primarily due to the lacklustre endorsement here at TMO, which seldom gets it wrong in my view (I think that Dave Hamilton was actually trying to be technically and professionally precise about its acoustic fidelity and range, but my take home was ‘meh’), and thoroughly enjoying mine, I am looking forward to being able to pair them in my bedroom for true surround sound for those times when my wife and I prefer to watch a movie there as opposed to our theatre in the basement (which is often occupied by the young people), as well as distribute a few more around the house.
A pre-holiday season announcement, perhaps.
Actually, let me amend the above. I just realised that Apple announced that the HomePod supports AirPlay 2, so two HomePods can be paired now. I just figured out my next purchase. That said, a mini would still be nice for the desk and the kitchen area.
