Apple just signed its third scripted TV show, and it’s a SciFi space drama being developed by Ronald D. Moore! You might remember Mr. Moore from such shows as the Battlestar Galactica reboot (!!!), Star Trek: The Next Generation (!!), Star Trek: Voyager, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Caprica (!!), Outlander, and others.
The show is being codeveloped by Fargo co-executive producers Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi. According to Deadline, “the untitled series explores what would have happened if the global space race had never ended.”
Apple, the Budding Media Giant
Put another way, this is the third big-time show signed by Apple. Ronald D. Moore is a heavyweight in the TV industry, with only a few misses under his belt. Battlestar Galactica prequel Caprica, for instance, was canceled part way through the first season, though I personally thought it was fantastic.
Apple’s first big scripted show was a reboot of Amazing Stories by some chap named Steven Spielberg. Keep your eye on that guy. I think he’s going to make something of himself. Mr. Spielberg was signed by Jamie Erlicht and Zack Van Amburg, two top-flight execs Apple poached from Sony Television. The second show is bring coproduced and will costar Jennifer Anniston and Reese Witherspoon.
I’m a fan of Ronald D. Moore’s work, and I can’t wait for this show.
