Apple Releases iOS 11.0.3 to Address Feedback Issue with iPhone 7, Touch Issue with iPhone 6s

Apple dropped iOS 11.0.3 Wednesday. The unexpected update is a maintenance release intended to squash two specific issues. The first is with audio and haptic feedback on some iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus devices. The second is an issue with touch input not working on some iPhone 6s displays.

The later was specifically aimed at iPhone 62 owners who have repaired screens with non-genuine Apple service parts. Apple went so far as to include a reminder to use Apple-certified screen repair services in the update notes, something I haven’t seen before.

Apple’s patch notes for iOS 11.0.3:

iOS 11.0.3 includes bug fixes for your iPhone or iPad. This update:

  • Fixes an issue where audio and haptic feedback would not work on some iPhone 7 and 7 Plus devices
  • Addresses an issue where touch input was unresponsive on some iPhone 6s displays because they were not serviced with genuine Apple parts

Note: Non-genuine replacement displays may have compromised visual quality and may fail to work correctly. Apple-certified screen repairs are performed by trusted experts who use genuine Apple parts. See support.apple.com for more information.

  • Just a follow up:

Apple said the touch screen issue was related to using non-authorised Apple components, so would not apply to my situation. As what I described was infrequent, I haven’t noticed any lack of responsiveness to the touch interface.

As for the redrawing issue, again uncommon, but no change noted.

I guess I’ll just have to upgrade to that iPhone X. What a shame.

  • Bryan:

As an iPhone 6s Plus owner, I can confirm that, with iOS 11, there has been an intermittent but infrequent lack of responsiveness to the touch interface. This unresponsiveness, in my experience, has almost always occurred when simply trying to open an app. I have not experienced this working within-app.

The other infrequent issue, which I’ve not seen reported elsewhere, has been a redrawing hesitancy, in which changes in the display may be delayed, discontinuous or non-fluid. Again, this is not routine, but occasional. In most cases, it has happened when waking the phone and logging in with Touch ID.

My iPhone is set to provide feedback, so hopefully both of these experiences have been noted.

Will let you know if this update fixes any of the above.
