Apple is reportedly working on a new product that merges robotics and consumer electronics. According to Bloomberg, the company is developing a home robot equipped with an iPad-style display mounted on a motorized arm.
Designed as a home assistant, the device is said to provide many functionalities, like smart home control, video conferencing, and home security monitoring. The robot could respond to voice commands via Siri or even features like “look at me” to adjust the screen orientation during video calls.
Apple is aiming for a 2026 or 2027 launch with an estimated price tag of around $1,000. The device is currently in the testing phase, reportedly running a customized version of iPadOS.
This project follows Apple’s canceled self-driving car project and the recent launch of the Vision Pro headset. If successful, this home robot could position Apple as a leader in the emerging home robotics market. While Apple is trailing behind in the race of AI, expanding its product ecosystem can generate new revenue streams and, perhaps, give it a jumpstart in this segment, as it did with Apple Watch and AirPods.
It remains to be seen whether the market is ready for such a high-priced device and whether Apple can successfully navigate the challenges associated with robotics and artificial intelligence.
