Apple is preparing itself for a transition in its new Mac models lineup, as they plan to introduce the new M4 processors later this year after introducing it in this year’s iPad Pro.
According to developer test logs reviewed by Bloomberg News, the company is actively testing four new Mac models, identified as “16,1,” “16,2,” “16,3,” and “16,10.”

The upcoming models are expected to feature base-level versions of the M4 chip. Three of these models will have 10-core CPUs and GPUs, while one lower-end version will include an 8-core CPU and GPU. The 10-core CPUs share the same specifications as the M4 processor found in the iPad Pro, which has four high-performance cores and six efficiency cores.
Meanwhile, the 8-core model will have four high-performance and four efficiency cores. Memory options for these Macs will range between 16 and 32 GB.
Bloomberg News has also reported that Apple plans to release a smaller Mac mini, new MacBook Pros, and updated iMacs, all with M4 chips, later this year.
The M4 chip, built using second-generation 3-nanometer technology, is said to have significant improvements in power efficiency and performance, with features like Dynamic Caching and hardware-accelerated ray tracing enhancing both computing and graphical capabilities. It’d be interesting to see how it is going to compete with Microsoft’s new Arm-based devices, especially when it comes to battery life and performance.
