In the ad, PC is showing a banner that says, “PC. Easy as 1-23,” which Mac assumes means easy as, 1, 2, 3, but PC explains that are actually 23 easy steps that are needed.
PC. Easy as 1-23
9to5Mac.com first noticed the ad, which has also been posted to YouTube (above). The full list of 23 steps, including four “Restart” steps, is:
- Remove unneeded bloatware
- Configure security settings
- Download and install OS security patches
- Restart
- Download/install extra security programs
- Restart
- Download/install drivers for peripherals
- Restart
- Remove optional Windows components
- Update new virus list
- Run full system virus scan
- Update new malware list
- Run full system malware scan
- Download/install application updates
- Restart
- Clean out system registry
- Repair corrupt system registry
- Defragment hard drive
- Free up disk space
- Scan disk for errors
- Run system file checker
- Read online instruction manual
- Cross fingers
Some of those items may be questionable, save for their inclusion for comedic value (defragmenting a new hard drive, for instance, isn’t likely to be necessary on any OS), but the overall effect of the ad is very humorous.
