Epson Intros Three New Consumer Scanners

Epson on Thursday introduced three new USB 2.0 scanners aimed at the consumer market: the Epson Perfection 4490 Photo, Perfection 3590 Photo and Perfection 3490 Photo, all of which will ship next month. All three scanners include the third generation of Epson Easy Photo Fix technology, which improves the color restoration of faded images, and all three feature a complement of front panel buttons that enable automatic scanning for copies and e-mail attachments, as well as creating PDF versions of scans.

The Epson Perfection 4490 Photo (US$249) offers 4800 x 9600 dpi resolution and a film holder for batch scanning of 35mm slides, negatives and 2.25-inch film. It also includes Digital ICE technology for dust and scratch removal from images. The included software suite features Adobe Photoshop Elements, ABBYY FineReader Sprint Plus, NewSoft Presto! BizCard and the Epson Creativity Suite of applications. Epson offers an automatic document feeder for $199.

The Epson Perfection 3590 Photo ($149) features 3200 x 6400 dpi resolution and an automatic film loader built into its lid that enables quick scanning of the frames of 35mm film strips. Its software suite features ArcSoft PhotoImpression, ABBYY FineReader Sprint OCR,
NewSoft Presto! BizCard and the Epson Creativity Suite. An optional multi photo and business card feeder is available for $149.

Finally, the Epson Perfection 3490 Photo ($99) offers the same capabilities and software as the 3590, with the exception of the automatic film loader. It does, however, have a built-in transparency adapter and can scan up to six frames per 35mm film strip, or two slides. The optional multi photo and business card feeder is also available for this model.

Product pages were not available on the Epson Web site as The Mac Observer posted this article.
