Messenger for iOS has got Dark Mode. Facebook announced Monday that it had updated the app as part of the rollout of Messenger 4.
Going Dark
Despite being available to users worldwide, the feature cannot yet be turned on in settings. To access Dark Mode, users send a crescent moon emoji in any messenger chat. Facebook said it would be rolled out fully in the latest versions of iOS and Android “in settings in the coming weeks.”
Facebook explained that Dark Mode, “provides lower brightness while maintaining contrast and vibrancy.” It also “cuts down the glare from your phone for use in low light situations.”
An increasing number of apps on both iOS and macOS have started rolling out Dark Mode. Apple introduced support for dark mode in a number of apps in macOS Mojave.
Facebook also recently introduced chat color gradients to Messenger. Conversations can now be assigned custom colors.
