Apple’s M4 chip, which made its debut on the iPad Pro, is set to make a move to the Mac lineup. Unlike previous M-series chips, the M4 upgrade will be rolled out across the entire Mac product range, from the budget-friendly MacBook Air to the high-performance Mac Pro.
According to reliable sources, the MacBook Pro, Mac mini, and iMac will be the first to receive the M4 treatment this fall. The MacBook Pro lineup will see a refresh with base M4 and more powerful M4 Pro and M4 Max variants. Here is a comparison between M4 and M2 in iPads.
In the Spring 2025, the MacBook Air will get its M4 update. Both the 13-inch and 15-inch models are expected to receive the new chip but without any major design changes, as per 9to5Mac. Major hardware revisions are unlikely.
The Mac Studio and Pro will join the M4 lineup in Summer 2025, with the new M4 Ultra chip and maybe a redesign for both models.
If Apple sticks to this timeline, it will have successfully updated its entire Mac lineup with the latest Apple Silicon chips in less than a year.
