What Is It
Motormouse – The computer mouse for anyone who wishes they were out on the road in a sports car instead of sitting in front of a computer screen.
By now I bet you have seen at least one mouse in a store somewhere that was shaped like something other than a traditional mouse. I have seen mice, bugs, and even fruit. Most of these items were about $10 and aimed at kids.
The motormouse line is a few steps above that idea. They are better made and offer elements that are necessary for serious computer users to get the job done.
The Motormouse
The first thing I noticed was the sturdiness of the car shell and the “car” details. The next was the convenience of the design. The mouse works off two AAA batteries and a small (1inch) 2.4 GHz USB receiver. When not in use, the batteries and the receiver can be stored in the “trunk”.
Other elements related to general mouse function include the presence of left and right buttons and the “spare tire” which functions as an extra wide scroll wheel.
And, for those car purists, there are chrome alloy wheels and real rubber tires.
How Well Does It Work
In a nutshell, it works as well as any other mouse. It fits in the palm of your hand. It’s easy to move around. The package includes a small special mouse pad, but I had no real problems using it on my regular gaming mouse pad. When the batteries need changing, the headlights of the car will start flashing. You can use rechargeable batteries in it with no problems. There is an on/off toggle, and with the built-in storage area, it is easy to remove the batteries when you know you won’t be using it for a while.
On the practical side, the package includes a soft carrying pouch with a section for carrying extra batteries, and two AAA batteries to get you started.
The Bottom Line
This mouse is not a toy. It is a well made, fully functional mouse that is also a conversational item and a fun addition for the car enthusiast. I would not hesitate to give this as a gift to any of the car lovers of my acquaintance.
