A New 16-Inch MacBook Pro Could Come Soon

Since March 2020, Apple has released several new and refreshed Mac and MacBook products. So far, we’ve seen new or updated models of the MacBook Air, Mac mini, 13-inch MacBook Pro, and 27-inch iMac. We also learned of Cupertino’s plans to release Apple Silicon-based Macs or MacBooks. In the release notes for a Boot Camp update, there is also mention of a new 16-inch MacBook Pro for 2020.

Could a New MacBook Pro Be Coming Soon?

As reported by MacRumors, several people noticed the release notes for Boot Camp 6.1.13 referencing a new, unannounced 2020 16-inch MacBook Pro. The 2019 16-inch model offers ninth-generation Intel Core processors and up to 64GB of memory. The notebook comes with up to 8TB of SSD storage and an AMD Radeon Pro 5000M graphics chip. It also features slimmer bezels, a Magic Keyboard with a more reliable scissor mechanism, and upgraded speakers and microphones.

While it’s true that Apple did add a new high-end graphics option for the laptop in June, that configuration is still referred to as a 2019 model. The Boot Camp release notes read, in part, that the update “[f]ixes a stability issue that could occur during heavy CPU load on 16-inch MacBook Pro (2019 and 2020) and 13-inch MacBook Pro (2020)”.

Rumored November 17 Event Could Include More Than Apple Silicon

We’ve heard rumblings that Apple has one more event planned, for November 17. That’s when we expect the announcement for the first Apple Silicon-based Mac. However, we expect that transition to begin with the lower end Apple notebooks. That would mean the MacBook Air or 13-inch MacBook Pro. We’ve even heard rumors of an Apple Silicon 12-inch MacBook.

Even if Cupertino announces Apple Silicon-based MacBook models in November, there’s still a chance for a 2020 16-inch MacBook Pro. Only time will tell.
